Renovation Update Part 8: New Builder Arrives

In this photo carousel, I’m showing the first look at the new builder and his guys getting started. They got to work right away finishing where the old builder had left off. The plumber and electrician were also able to get back to work now that they had the support of the builder’s crew.

What You See in the Video

  • See half-finished walls being finished
  • Look at the new pipes roughed in now that the plumber was back to work.
  • Once, roughed in, lines were covered in a thin layer of concrete to protect them from being stepped on.

The Story Behind-the-Scenes

To say I couldn’t wait for the day the new builder would start doesn’t at all convey the build up of anticipation I was feeling.

But, the experience with the previous builder absolutely left scars. I was weary from an ordeal that had dragged out for months and was definitely on high alert as I got to know this new builder. I had to trust again and that wasn’t an overnight process. My anticipation was a mix of excitement, relief, and hesitation for what could go wrong again.

Maybe he sensed this or not, I don’t know. In reality, he was a professional who recognized the large job in front of him. And to my utter astonishment, he showed up with trucks of materials and a team of 10-12 guys. There had never been so many workers in the house at one time. It was surreal walking from room to room seeing so much happening each day.

The plumber, electrician, and other tradesmen also came back. Their work had stalled with no builder to support them but now they could move forward. And while all of this might seem straightforward, everyone’s schedules had to be coordinated to time when specific people were needed and not.

I was especially relieved to confirm that our window restorer could still take the job. After the delay, I was afraid he would have other work that made it too difficult to work with us.

And so it went like this. I pulled together all the pieces from tradespeople to materials to get everything back on track. It was exhausting, all-consuming, and incredible to witness the house’s transformation.
